Island of Lastovo is located 14km south of Korcula. In 2006, the Croatian Government declared the island and its archipelago, Lastovo Archipelago, a nature park due to the unusual preserved land and underwater beauty, forestation, coastal cliffs, underwater caves and rare marine species. Archipelago consists of 44 islands, with the largest islands being Lastovo, Susac, Prezba and Mrcara, and the others being small islets. The history of the island is similar to the history of other Adriatic places: Illyrians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Croatians, Venetians, Ragusa Republic, Habsburgs
