Molat is an island in the northwest of Zadar Archipelago, between the sea of Vir and open Adriatic Sea. Its inhabitants have been producing honey since olden times, so the island was named after Latin mellitus, meaning to be made of honey. The island was a fish exporter and it was known for quality milk, vine and olives. It was first mentioned in the 7th century. Through centuries it was subjected to great violence by Venetians, Turks, British pirates, and it was also known for the Italian fascist camp where 20,000 people were imprisoned in the World War II. families with children. Lucina is a safe haven for boats. Molat has two stores and a bakery. There is the 15th century Parish Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, although it was mentioned much earlier. There is also a cultural home from 1926 and a library from 1933. You can take a thirty minute walk from Molat to the village of Brgulje with a forested islet in front of its harbor. Accommodation on Molat is offered in private apartments. One can rent an apartment in older parts of the mentioned villages (inland) as well as their newer parts by the sea. Don't forget to taste fresh fish in one of the island taverns.
