Labin is a town located on the east side of the Istrian Peninsula, on a hill with the elevation of 320m, only three kilometers from the sea and from Rabac. Its old name, Labina - Albona, has been mentioned in the Roman times. Matthias Flacius Illyricus, a reformer and associate of Martin Luther was born in Labin. The home he was born in, together with the memorial collection, can be seen in the old town. One should certainly visit the National Museum, located in the Battiala-Lazzarini Baroque palace, with its archeological and ethnographic collection and a model of the mine. Labin used to be a coal mining town, as well as Rasa, and its surroundings are full of closed mines. The old town is also the location of the 16th century Town Hall. In front of the Town Hall is where public life of Labin people once took place. Church of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary was erected in the old town in 1336. The old town is also the site of the City Gallery. Towards the town exit is where the Park of Sculptures, Dubrova, is located, with over 70 art works that are exhibited in open space. Since 1970, Dubrova has been the location of the annual Mediterranean Sculptor's Symposium every August and September. Every July and August, Labin turns into a real art republic. Labin Art Republic is a project that brings to life the historical and curtural heritage of Labin. The project was initiated in 2003. During the Labin Art Republic, the streets, the steps, old town square, theater, and church all become a stage for various musicians and actors' performances. Labin visitors can find accommodation in private apartments or in small hotels, such as Villa Iva or Villa Venera. Apartments in Labin are mostly designed in a way that preserves the spirit of this place. All other hotels, apartments and camps are located in Rabac and its surroundings.
