Trpanj, a town with less than a thousand inhabitants, located on Peljesac, facing Neretva Canal and mainland. The name Trpanj was derived from the name of the fortification Tarponio, which, according to legend, was torn down by Julius Caesar in the fight against Illyrians. Trpanj has been inhabited since ancient times, as witnessed by old drywalls that date back to Illyrian times and by Roman ruins. Above Trpanj port there is Gradina with preserved north wall that is 60m long. It was built in times of Julius Caesar to ensure safe sailing. Town centre is the site of the old Church of Our Lady of

Carmel with the crescent of the Gundulic family at the altar, and at the very edge of Trpanj there is a small chapel with the wooden Baroque altar. The area has many trails and paths that are suitable for walking and biking. The walking trail with an interesting name "Around the sea" is 2km long and circumambulates Trpanj from the north. Divna and Duba coves can be reached by a 15km long road that goes through old olive groves and Mediterranean vegetation. There are nice pebble beaches in Trpanj and almost all are close to pine forests that provide them with the necessary cool shade in summer

months. The old town core is the site of theatre plays, concerts and fishermen's nights, and the central celebration is on 15th of August on Assumption Day. Trpanj Club Jabuka is an important place for the town's social life and it has been active since 1845 when it was opened as a porterhouse and a barbershop. Today, it is a cultural place where one can enjoy food, drinks and entertainment program. Town is the location of Blace cove that is known for healing mud which is proven to help with rheumatic pains.
