Located in northwest Istria, Umag is a tourist destination that is also popular for being the host to the ATP tennis tournament - Croatia Open. Many famous tennis players like Goran Ivanisevic, Carlos Moya and Novak Dokovic played in the tournament. International Festival of Antique Sepomaia Viva takes place in August. It brings the Antique spirit back to life, making it possible for Umag residents and tourists to experience the way of life under the Roman rule in Umag and its surroundings. It is the remains of Roman villas that best witness the age of this city. In the old city of Umag one can see Gothic houses, the south part of the defensive wall and the 14th century medieval city tower that is currently the Umag City Museum. August is also the time of Tomato Days when tasty tomato meals are prepared at the main square (Freedom Square). The proceeds from the event go to humanitarian purposes. Only 9 kilometers north of Umag is Savudrija, one of the most protruding coastal points in Istria. Savudrija is a fishermen's village and a tourist resort, also with numerous apartments. The most popular attraction of Savudrija is its lighthouse, the oldest in Istria, built in 1818 and 36 meters tall. The lighthouse has been adapted for guests and can accommodate the maximum of 4 people at one time.
